The Tripp Lite SRW6U is the best Tripp Lite server cabinet for most small offices and home labs: 6U of space, 16.5 in of usable depth, 200 lb of capacity and about 32 lb to lift onto the wall, which covers a switch, a patch panel and a small UPS in a closet with no floor to spare.

When you need to reach the back of the cabling, the hinged-back Tripp Lite SRW12USG adds 12U, 20.5 in of depth and a window door. Once a full-depth server or a rack UPS enters the picture, only a floor cabinet works, and the Tripp Lite SR42UB is the one built for a populated, growing rack.

How to read a Tripp Lite cabinet model number

The naming is a code, and once you decode it the catalog collapses into a few families. SR prefixes the floor-standing enclosures, SRW the wall-mount line, and SRWF the wall-mount frame cabinets built around a fixed deep mounting depth. The number after the prefix is the rack-unit capacity, so SRW6U is 6U and SR42UB is 42U.

Suffixes carry the variant. S marks a hinged, swing-out back, G an acrylic window in the front door, DP the deeper switch-depth-plus wall models, KD a knock-down cabinet that ships unassembled, and US on wall models signals the hinged-back family. The same U height can appear in several variants with different depths and door types, so the number alone does not identify the cabinet. The suffix does.

That is the most useful thing to carry into any listing: match the full model string, not the U count. A 12U wall cabinet with a hinged back and 20.5 in of depth is a different product from a 12U fixed-back cabinet with 16.5 in, and the two are sold side by side.

Wall cabinet or floor cabinet, what decides it

Floor space, equipment depth and weight decide the form factor, not preference. Wall cabinets in this line top out around 20.5 in of usable equipment depth and 200 to 225 lb of capacity, which suits switches, patch panels, shallow UPS units and short-depth gear. They hang in closets, back offices, classrooms and retail back rooms where floor space is scarce.

Floor cabinets start at mid-depth, around 32.5 in, and go to full standard depth at 43 in external. They carry 1,000 lb and up, and they are the only way to four-post mount a full-depth server or a large rack UPS.

The practical consequence shows up on installation day. A wall cabinet is a two-person lift onto the wall and needs studs or a backing board. A floor cabinet arrives on a pallet and needs a doorway wide enough and a route without stairs. Measure the deepest device first, then pick the form factor that can hold it.

Depth is the spec that decides the purchase

Two different depth numbers matter and they are not the same. Maximum equipment depth is how deep a device can be and still sit inside the cabinet with the door closed. Adjustable mounting depth is the range the rails can slide through front to back. A cabinet can be deep enough externally for a device yet not have the rail travel to mount it where it needs to sit.

The working rule: deepest device plus a few inches for rear cabling and power plugs must be less than the maximum equipment depth, and the device depth must fall inside the rail adjustment range. Measure the device with its rear cables and power cord attached, not the bare chassis.

The depth tiers in this line run from switch-depth wall cabinets around 16.5 in, to switch-depth-plus wall cabinets around 20.5 in, to mid-depth floor cabinets around 32.5 in, to full standard-depth floor cabinets around 43 in external. The deep wall-frame models run 33 to 36 in of horizontal mounting depth for a single deep device mounted vertically.

How the Door, Side Panels and Rear Access Work on a Tripp Lite Cabinet

The access design is where the wall models differ most from each other, and it changes daily use. Standard wall cabinets have a locking, reversible front door and removable locking side panels. The hinged-back models swing the whole cabinet away from the wall so you can reach the rear of the equipment and the cabling without unloading it.

Acrylic-window doors let you read link lights and status LEDs without opening the cabinet, which is useful in a closet or a shared office. Reversible doors open left or right by rotating the cabinet before mounting, and that matters when a wall corner or a door swing dictates the hinge side.

On floor cabinets, front and rear doors are locking, removable and reversible, and side panels come off for side access. The trade-off is real: a hinged-back cabinet needs clearance in front to swing, and a window door trades some perforation area for visibility.

What arrives with your Tripp Lite cabinet and what you still have to source yourself

Every cabinet in this line ships with cage nuts, screws and cup washers, and the count scales with the size: the 6U wall cabinets include 12 sets, the 9U and 10U include 12 to 24, the 15U includes its own set of M6 screws, cage nuts and washers, and the 42U floor cabinet includes 50. That is enough for a typical load but not for a densely populated cabinet, so extra cage nuts and screws are a sensible add-on.

The floor cabinets include casters and levelers. The wall cabinets do not include wall anchors or lag bolts, and the caster kit for wall models is optional. No PDU, no fan kit, no UPS and no cable management accessories are included. The knock-down model ships unassembled and goes together with a small number of fasteners.

Security and compliance in this line

The locking front door and locking removable side panels are the physical-security layer. Several models in this line are stated as meeting PCI DSS enclosure requirements, which matters for anyone handling card data in a retail or office setting.

The hinged-back models lock the doors and side panels so the cabinet cannot be opened from the front or the side without a key. The deep wall-frame model is likewise PCI-compliant. In practice, the cabinet is the lockable boundary around the equipment, and key control is the operator's responsibility.

The brand today, Eaton Tripp Lite Series

The rack line is now sold under the Eaton Tripp Lite Series name, and the model numbers are unchanged: an SRW12USG is an SRW12USG whichever name is on the listing. Listings and spec sheets may use either name, so confirm the model number rather than the brand string when comparing listings.

The five-year limited warranty stated across the line is the one to check against the listing you buy from.

Our picks by budget

The SRW6U is the right first cabinet for a closet with a switch, a patch panel and a small UPS: light, fully assembled and enough depth for switch-depth gear.

The SRW12USG is worth the step up because the extra spend goes to the hinge and the window, the two features that make a wall cabinet pleasant to live with once you patch regularly.

The SR42UB is the premium pick for a populated, growing rack: full-depth servers, a rack UPS, toolless PDU mounting and front and rear doors.

Our verdict on the Tripp Lite server cabinet line

Two measurements decide almost every Tripp Lite cabinet purchase: the deepest device and the available wall or floor space. For most small offices and home labs the SRW6U is the pick: 6U, 16.5 in of depth and about 32 lb, enough for a switch, a patch panel and a small UPS in a closet with no floor to spare. If you patch often, the hinged-back SRW12USG is the better long-term buy because rear access is what you miss first. The SR24UB and SR42UB floor cabinets take over once a full-depth server or a rack UPS enters the picture, and the SR42UB is the one built for a populated, growing rack. The knock-down and wall-frame models are the specialist answers for awkward delivery routes and single deep devices.

Detailed model analysis

A cabinet that fits your deepest device with the door closed and leaves you room to reach the back is worth more than one that saves a few U.

Tripp Lite SRW6U

The Tripp Lite SRW6U is a small wall cabinet for a closet with no floor to spare. It offers 6U of rack space and arrives fully assembled, so you hang it and start loading gear.

The steel cabinet weighs 32 lb, which is manageable to lift onto the wall. It is rated for up to 200 lb of equipment, enough for a switch and a patch panel.

The door and side panels enclose your gear, and the removable mounting plate gives you access while you install. Two keys come in the box, with M6 screws, cage nuts, cup washers, 12-24 screws and mounting plate screws.

Fully assembled delivery sets it apart from the Tripp Lite SRW6UKD, which ships as a knock-down kit you put together with 12 fasteners. The warranty runs 5 years.

The limits are real. It tops out at 6U, so a growing rack outgrows it fast. As a switch-depth cabinet it rules out full-depth servers, and the Tripp Lite SR42UB suits those better.

It suits small offices and home labs that want a ready-to-hang cabinet for a switch and a patch panel.

Tripp Lite SRW9U

The Tripp Lite SRW9U gives you 9U of 19 in rack space on the wall, three more units than the Tripp Lite SRW6U. Equipment can be up to 16.5 in deep.

At 21 lb it is the lightest cabinet in this guide, with a compact frame for a small wall. The low weight eases the lift onto the wall.

Vents on the sides, front, top and bottom let air move through the steel cabinet. The front door locks and reverses, the side panels come off, and two keys are included. Cable ports sit on the top and bottom panels.

The box holds a wall bracket, a removable mounting plate, 12 each of M6 screws, cage nuts, cup washers and 12-24 screws, plus an owner's manual. It ships fully assembled with a 5-year warranty.

Compared with the Tripp Lite SRW10US, it gives up one unit and takes shallower equipment, but it is much lighter.

The limit is depth: nothing deeper than 16.5 in. The Tripp Lite SRW9UDP takes equipment up to 20.5 in. This one suits first-closet buyers wanting slack above a 6U cabinet.

  • Brand: Tripp Lite
  • Rack height: 9U
  • Load capacity: 200 lb
  • Max equipment depth: 16.5 in
  • Mounting: Wall mount
  • Weight: 21 lb

Tripp Lite SRW10US

The Tripp Lite SRW10US is a 10U wall cabinet with a hinged back that swings the enclosure away from the wall. You reach the cabling from behind without unloading the rack.

It accepts equipment up to 20.5 in deep. It is rated for up to 200 lb and weighs about 53.4 lb (24.22 kg), so the wall and the mounting hardware carry real weight.

The front door and side panels lock to prevent tampering and theft. Vents let air flow through the heavy-duty steel frame, which has a black powder-coated finish. Two keys come in the box.

Adjustable vertical rails, numbered rack spaces, and square and 12-24 threaded mounting holes keep setup simple. Top and bottom ports route cables. 24 each of M6 screws, cage nuts, washers and 12-24 screws are included.

The main limit: casters are not included, so rolling it on the floor means buying the optional caster kit.

It suits office or retail closets where cabling changes often and the wall has room to swing the cabinet out. It ships fully assembled, and a 5-year warranty applies.

  • Brand: Tripp Lite
  • Rack height: 10U
  • Dimensions: 20.5 in deep, 23.6 in wide and 21.4 in high

Tripp Lite SRW15US

The Tripp Lite SRW15US offers 15U, three units more than the Tripp Lite SRW12USG. It suits fuller closet builds with a known load.

A hinged wall bracket lets the cabinet swing away from the wall, so you can reach the back of the gear. Four adjustable vertical rails with square holes hold standard 19 in equipment.

Equipment can be up to 20.5 in deep, the same maximum as the Tripp Lite SRW12USG and Tripp Lite SRW10US. Mounting depth adjusts from 3 in to 20.5 in.

The front door is locking, reversible and perforated, so it opens to whichever side suits your wall. Side panels are locking, removable and perforated, which helps airflow. Cable openings sit in the top and bottom panels.

It meets PCI DSS enclosure requirements, ships fully assembled and carries a 5-year limited warranty. Two keys and an owner's manual are included.

It is rated for up to 200 lb and weighs 71 lb, so the wall has to carry a lot. It does not roll unless you add the optional caster kit.

  • Brand: Tripp Lite
  • Rack height: 15U
  • Maximum equipment depth: 20.5 in
  • Load capacity: 200 lb
  • Weight: 71 lb
  • Mounting type: Wall mount

Tripp Lite SRW12USG

The Tripp Lite SRW12USG is a 12U wall cabinet with a shatter-resistant clear acrylic window in the front door. You can see the gear without opening it.

It hinges and swings away from the wall, which gives you back-door access to cabling. It takes 19 in equipment up to 20.5 in deep.

The frame is heavy-duty steel with a black powder-coated finish, and the cabinet ships fully assembled. It weighs 60 lb, so leave room for the swing.

It is PCI-compliant and carries a 5-year limited warranty. Casters are not included, so rolling it on the floor takes the optional caster kit.

It suits network closets, retail locations, classrooms and back offices where the cabinet gets opened often and floor space is limited.

The limits: equipment depth stops at 20.5 in, and a full 12U of heavy gear must stay within the 200 lb load rating.

  • Brand: Tripp Lite
  • Rack size: 12U
  • Mounting type: Wall mount
  • Load capacity: 200 lb
  • Max equipment depth: 20.5 in
  • Weight: 60 lb

Tripp Lite SR42UB

The Tripp Lite SR42UB is the full-height pick, with 42U for a rack that fills up over time. It is taller than the Tripp Lite SR24UB at 24U.

It carries 3000 lb stationary and 2250 lb rolling, far more than the 1000 lb on the Tripp Lite SR24UB. Rolling it loaded lowers the rating, so plan around the lower number.

Front and rear doors are locking, removable, reversible and perforated for airflow. Four side panels with locks and two keys come in the box.

Adjustable rails carry a depth index, and toolless slots take PDUs and cable managers, which are not included. It meets PCI DSS enclosure requirements and has a 5-year warranty.

It measures 43 in deep, 23.63 in wide and 78.5 in high, and weighs about 281 lb (127.46 kg). At 78.5 in high, it needs a clear path to get there.

It suits proper server rooms and long-life floor installations with a rack that keeps growing.

  • Brand: Tripp Lite
  • Rack units: 42U
  • Static load capacity: 3000 lb
  • Rolling load capacity: 2250 lb
  • Height: 78.5 in
  • Weight: 281.0 lb (127.46 kg)

Tripp Lite SR24UB

The Tripp Lite SR24UB is a floor-standing 24U cabinet with four casters and four levelers. It ships fully assembled with a 5-year limited warranty.

Rails with square mounting holes adjust in quarter-inch steps for equipment up to 32.5 in deep, starting at 3 in. That covers standard server depths that switch-depth wall cabinets do not reach.

The rails carry up to 1000 lb with the included installation hardware. The Tripp Lite SR42UB rates higher still. The cabinet itself weighs 136.7 lb.

The front door locks and reverses, and the side panels lock and come off. The perforated door and side panels, plus vented top and bottom panels, help warm air leave by convection.

Fifty each of M6 screws, cage nuts and washers come in the box, with two keys and an owner's manual. Rack spaces are numbered, top and bottom ports route cables, and it meets PCI DSS requirements.

It suits admins who service locked equipment often. The limit: cooling fans are not included. It supports user-supplied case fans only, so extra airflow means buying your own.

  • Brand: Tripp Lite
  • Rack capacity: 24U
  • Weight capacity: 1000 lb
  • Mounting depth: 3 in to 32.5 in adjustable
  • Weight: 136.7 lb
  • Material: Alloy steel

Tripp Lite SRWF5U36

The Tripp Lite SRWF5U36 is a vertical wall enclosure built for deep chassis, with an enclosure depth of 36 in and 5U of rack space.

Adjustable horizontal rails hold 19 in rackmount equipment at mounting depths from 33 in to 36 in. The rails reverse, so you can use M6 holes or 12-24 threaded holes.

Slide-out brackets add space for up to 2U of patch panels, with easy cable access. They take patch panels only, so the extra 2U is not for other gear.

The cabinet is rated for up to 150 lb of equipment and weighs 66.1 lb. The front door locks, reverses and is ventilated, and ventilated bottom panels add airflow. Keyhole slots handle the wall mounting.

It ships fully assembled, meets PCI DSS enclosure requirements and carries a 5-year limited warranty. Screws, cup washers, two keys and an owner's manual come in the box.

Next to the Tripp Lite SRW6U, it trades rack height for depth. It suits home labs or back offices with one deep chassis and a solid wall.

  • Brand: Tripp Lite
  • Rack height: 5U
  • Depth: 36 in
  • Weight capacity: 150 lb
  • Weight: 66.1 lb
  • Material: Alloy steel

Tripp Lite SRW9UDP

The Tripp Lite SRW9UDP is a 9U wall cabinet for equipment up to 20.5 in deep, sized for switches and patch panels.

Vertical rails adjust in 7/8 in steps. Square and threaded mounting holes and numbered rack spaces keep equipment installation straightforward.

It is rated for up to 200 lb and weighs 55.1 lb. The frame is heavy-duty steel with a black powder-coated finish. The front door and side panels lock to deter tampering and theft.

The front, top, bottom and removable side panels are vented, and top and bottom ports route cables.

The reversible front door opens left or right, but you set that by rotating the cabinet 180 degrees before mounting. Casters are not included, so mobility takes the optional caster kit.

  • Brand: Tripp Lite

  • Load capacity: 200 lb
  • Weight: 55.1 lb
  • Material: Alloy steel
  • Mounting: Wall mount

Tripp Lite SRW6UKD

The Tripp Lite SRW6UKD is the only cabinet in this guide that ships unassembled. It arrives as a knock-down kit that goes together with just 12 fasteners, and the flat parts are easier to carry through confined spaces.

It holds 6U of 19 in equipment up to 16.5 in deep, such as network switches and patch panels. The rated load is 200 lb, the same as the Tripp Lite SRW6U, so you give up no capacity.

Vertical rails adjust in 7/8 in steps, with square and threaded mounting holes and numbered rack spaces. The steel frame has a black powder-coated finish. The cabinet weighs 29 lb.

The front door locks and can open left or right. The front, top, bottom and side panels are vented, and top and bottom ports route cables. Two keys come in the box.

It suits network wiring closets, retail locations, classrooms and back offices where floor space is limited. A 5-year limited warranty applies.

The limits: you must assemble it, and it only takes switch-depth gear.

  • Brand: Tripp Lite
  • Rack size: 6U
  • Max depth: 16.5 in
  • Load capacity: 200 lbs
  • Mounting: Wall mount
  • Material: Alloy steel

Frequently asked questions

Depth, hinge side and what comes in the box are the details that decide whether a cabinet installs cleanly or comes back.

What does the hinged back on the 10U, 12U and 15U models do?

It lets you patch and repatch without unloading the cabinet, and it needs clearance in front to swing open.

Can the front door open the other way?

Yes. The door is reversible, and on the wall models you rotate the cabinet 180 degrees before mounting to change the hinge side.

Do these cabinets come assembled?

All except the knock-down 6U, which ships flat and assembles with 12 fasteners. For the floor models, measure the doorway width and line up a second person before delivery day.

Which Tripp Lite cabinet should I choose if I need to reach the back of the cabling without unloading the gear?

Choose a hinged-back model. The US suffix on a wall model marks the hinged-back family, and these models typically offer around 20.5 in of depth, sometimes with an acrylic window door. The trade-off is clearance in front, because the cabinet needs room to swing.

How much weight can a wall cabinet hold?

Around 200 lb on most models here, 225 lb on the 15U and 150 lb on the wall-frame model. That figure covers the equipment, and the wall and fasteners carry the cabinet itself.
